When you are looking to upgrade your home, there are two rooms you should focus on to ensure that you get a good return on your money: the kitchen and the bathrooms. When looking at remodeling a bathroom, there are a few elements that really command attention and those are the shower, bathtub and the lighting. Lighting in a bathroom can really make or break a room. The great thing is that depending on the age and style of your home, you might be able to get away with updating your home’s lighting in an effort to bring your home up to date.

Another great thing about lighting is that it can be relatively inexpensive. For instance, there are many brands of lighting that are moderately priced in the $10 to $50 range, depending on the type of lighting. On the other hand, if budget is not an issue, you can spend upward of $1000 fairly easily on lighting, especially if you purchase a custom piece of lighting.

When choosing lighting for your bathroom, you want to ensure that the finish of the fixtures is similar to the finish of your faucets as well as your shower and bath fixtures. For instance, you don’t want to have some fixtures that are bronze and others that are chrome or oil rubbed bronze. You want to have some cohesiveness when laying out a bathroom. This is particularly true if you plan on selling your home in the near future. In addition, you may want think about the color of the flooring as well as the mirrors. If you are going to be upgrading the bathroom lighting, it would make sense to go ahead and replace or upgrade the mirrors as well. Mirrors are easy and inexpensive to upgrade, but really seems to make an impact visually, especially for the money spent.

Hinkley Lighting has been in business since the 1920’s and has a great reputation in the industry of supplying top notch lighting to its customers. Hinkley Lighting delivers high value for the price.

There are many advantages to purchasing Hinkley lighting over other lighting options. First of all, you don’t typically see Hinkley sold at big box stores. This feature sets them apart and means that you won’t find your lighting fixtures in every house around you nor will you see it in every new house being built. Hinkley is also on the forefront of being green. When Hinkley says they going green, they mean it. Where they can, and where technology will allow, Hinkley incorporate new designs and green options where available. In fact, if you want to see the initiative that Hinkley has taken towards being green, look no further than their catalog. The Hinkley Lighting catalog is printed using vegetable-based inks. In addition, the paper is made using wind power and the paper is made from 10% post-consumer recovered fiber.

As far as lighting options, Hinkley Lighting continues to stay on the forefront of what people want as far as design. Hinkley Lighting produces new pieces frequently to ensure that their line of products stays fresh. No matter your style or design, Hinkley Lighting is certain to have something that meets your criteria. If you are looking for a more classic look, Hinkley can certainly fill that spot. On the other hand, if you are looking for contemporary in your bathroom, Hinkley can certainly meet that order as well.

When you decide on what piece you’d like to order, you will also have the peace of mind knowing that you are purchasing lighting from a company with a long history and a company that stands behind their product. Electrical components come with a lifetime warranty and the finish comes with a 15 year warranty. The great thing about the warranties is that by the time the warranty is up, it’s probably time to change out the fixtures anyways to stay up with the times.

Hampton Bay is solely sold through Home Depot and is therefore one of the largest producers of fans and lighting in the country and the world. Hampton Bay carries a wide variety of products such as fans and lighting that most people are accustomed to, but Hampton Bay also produces outdoor furniture and outdoor lighting.

Hampton Bay’s style and price points vary as much as a consumerss taste possible can. Hampton Bay carries indoor lighting that ranges in price from under $10 per light to over $1000 for a chandelier – it all depends on your budget and what you are looking for in lighting.

There are many advantages to Hampton Bay over other brands. Of course, Hampton Bay carries a wide variety of lighting, but fans as well. Besides being extremely competitively priced, Hampton Bay offers the advantage of being sold at the largest home improvement store in the world and it makes it easy and convenient if you should decide that you want a different style or if something doesn’t work properly. Another advantage is that Hampton Bay offers fans that are of similar style to the lighting which makes decorating a bit easier. Also, given the breadth of Hampton Bay’s selection, it’s going to be difficult to find a lighting or fan that you don’t like. Again, you have the option of easily returning the item if it doesn’t work with your décor.

Hampton Bay has been around for many years and has the backing of the largest home improvement store in the world. Hampton Bay is certainly a brand you should consider if remodeling or upgrading the lighting around your home – you will not be disappointed.

Atlanta is a multi-faceted city with a diverse mixture of people with one of the largest metro areas of any city in the United States (currently the 9th largest metro area in the US). Atlanta is the largest city in the southeastern United States and is certainly the city with the most influence about fashion and style in the area.

What are some things to consider before remodeling a home in Atlanta?

Before remodeling, there are a few things you might want to consider.

You need to set a budget.

This is probably one of the most important steps in the process and certainly lays the foundation for what you should or should not consider. For instance, if you have $1000 to work with, you might want to consider remodeling a smaller room if you are going to be hiring someone else to do the work. It really all depends on what you want to do and whether you will be doing the work or if you will be hiring someone else to do the work.

A budget will also dictate whether you will be doing the work or whether you can hire others to do it.

Are you doing the work or is someone else?

Your budget will dictate whether you or whether you can afford to hire someone else to do the work. If you are doing the work yourselves, you will have more budget

Extent of Remodel

Remodeling means different things to different people. There are also different extents to which other people can or will do remodeling.

Questions to think about:

Are you remodeling the whole house?

There are a lot of different terms that people use for remodeling. Remodeling can include taking out the sheet rock or paneling and taking the house down to the studs or it could just include putting in new fixtures or anywhere in between.

How long are you going to live in the house after being remodeled?

This is an important question because perhaps you should not remodel at all if you are only going to be living in the house for a short amount of time.

If you are remodeling to sell, you must consider that you will most likely not see a return on your money. The only way you might see a return on your money is if the house is extremely outdated and most likely wouldn’t sell otherwise.

What are other people in your neighborhood or street doing to remodel their homes? Have other people remodeled or is it better to stay in the older style?

Ok, you have a lot of things to think about. Remodeling a house can be great and very rewarding, but there are certain things you need to think about before spending thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.

What is laminate flooring?

Laminate flooring is a composite material, meaning, it’s made of many different materials. The top layer is typically the protective layer and keeps the laminate from scratching. The next layer down is what people like about laminate, the looks. The next two layers are made of fiberboard or HDF and a melamine resin. These two layers give the laminate stability and structural integrity. The last layer typically comes in a second package and is known as the underlayment.
Laminate flooring is enjoyed by many for a variety of reasons. The easy installation is certainly one of the reasons. Laminate flooring doesn’t use glue or nails, but instead uses a locking system. Another reason people like laminate flooring as opposed to other flooring options is because of cost. Laminate flooring is very cost effective and because of its ease of installation, the installation costs are less than what you might see for engineered or hardwood flooring. Laminate flooring also gives you a wide variety of options that you typically don’t see in other flooring options.

If you are looking for an eco-friendly option, laminate is something you may want to consider. Unlike carpet that has to be changed out every few years, laminate flooring is extremely durable. Laminate flooring, in fact, is recyclable and uses natural resources such as wood chip fiberboard. Laminate can not only be good for the Earth, but also your pocket book and appealing to the eyes as well.
What to Look for in Laminate Flooring?
Well, for most people, the number one aspect that they will look for in a laminate floor is cost. The more real, the thicker and the more customized your laminate appears, the more expensive your laminate will be. If you want a dark, hand-scraped, 12 mm laminate, you will be looking at the $1.50 to $4.00 range. You can find laminate priced in the $1.50 to $2.00 range in the thickness mentioned, but it’s typically something you won’t find at Home Depot or Lowe’s even though they certainly deal in bulk.
Where Should Laminate Be Installed?

Laminate flooring can be installed in many areas. Depending on the water resistance of your particular laminate, you may want to install laminate in all the areas except the wet areas – kitchen and bathrooms. Some people also avoid putting laminate around doors that lead outside (people tracking in water). From the information available, you are probably OK with having laminate in areas around water as long as the water doesn’t sit on the laminate for long periods of time.

New York City started in 1624, but was founded under the name New Amsterdam and then renamed New York as the English took control in 1664.

During the American Revolution, the largest battle of the war was the Battle of Long Island which was fought in August 1776. In the 1800’s, the city was transformed by the large waves of immigrants coming to America and by the development of the city and the country in general. In the 1920’s, NYC overtook London as the most populous city in the world.
New York City (NYC) is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. It’s also one of the most diverse with London being the most diverse city I’ve been to. NYC has a lot of titles from being the largest city in the United States to being home to more billionaires than any other city in the world. NYC isn’t the most expensive city in the world, but it’s certainly in the top 5. Of course, where there is a lot of money, there are high prices in real estate and NYC is not excluded.
NYC is a diverse town a bit different from most cities in the United States. NYC is the only US city where the percentage of non-car owners is greater than the percentage of car owners (55% of NYC househols do not own a car). Also, NYC is a very environmentally conscious city. The average NYC resident consumes half of the energy of a typical San Francisco resident and a quarter of the energy of a resident in Dallas, TX. As far as ethnic diversity, more than 12 million European immigrants passed through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1924. In fact by 1900, there were more Italians in NYC than in every city in Italy except for Rome, more Poles than any city except for Warsaw, as many Irish as in Dublin, and more Jews than anywhere else in the world. Among the population, 36% of the residents are foreign-born, only behind Los Angeles and Miami in that category.
NYC is broken up into 5 different boroughs and are: Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. Each of these boroughs are very different and contain many different neighborhoods within each borough.
Somewhat like the style of Los Angeles, there are a lot of things that will fly in NYC compared to other cities because of the vast diversity of the population. When remodeling a NYC place, there are a lot of things to consider. For instance, do you plan on staying there long term, short term or are you flipping the place. Depending on your answer, there are different ways you might want to go. If you plan on staying in the home long term, you could be more liberal with your design choices than you could if you planned on staying there for a short amount of time. Why? Well, if you are staying there long term, you can design for you. If you plan on selling sometime in the near future, you are not only designing for you, but for your potential buyer in the future. If you will be living there short term, you will most likely want to be a bit more neutral in your design. I would also suggest not putting a lot of money into the place unless you really have to do so. If you are flipping the property, I assume you have some money to work with, equity on the property, and money set aside for holding costs. If you are flipping the property, you will be doing more things to the property, but I would also want to stay neutral so you don’t scare away too many potential buyers.
Before spending any money on a remodel, you will want to go see homes in your neighborhood. In most other cities in the country, you can look at houses within a mile and be safe. In other, denser cities, you can stay within a few blocks and be OK. In NYC, you really need to pay attention to the street transitions. NYC can change from block to block. For instance, you could be in the Italian section of NYC on one block and Chinatown in the next section. The differences between the streets are night and day so you’ll want to pay close attention to that.
When deciding on a design, as said a little earlier, look at what your neighbors are doing. If you see some places for sale, go look at them. Also, whether you are staying long term in the home, short term, or flipping, be sure to focus on the kitchen and master bathrooms. If you want a good return on your money, those are the two rooms to focus on. This point cannot be stressed enough. When doing a remodel in NYC, whether it’s the whole home or a kitchen, know your audience. There are some features that a Jewish section of NYC might prefer that a Latin section of NYC might not prefer and vice versa. When deciding on a contractor, you will want to get at least three bids, maybe more. Getting three bids does a few things: 1. You might learn something 2. You will be giving your potential contractor competition. This will not only give you a better price, but will let the contractor know that you have a backup plan if they don’t work out.
Before actually hiring the contractor of choice, ask for references and actually CALL the references. I would also check with the better business bureau on the company and on the owner of the company if possible (sometimes owner change company names after screwing people over). If you have access to county records in NYC, I would check there. In some states, counties, cities, you are able to see if the company/owner has liens against other people or themselves. This will help you avoid stepping into a messy situation. When you do decide on a contractor, I would work it out to pay the contractor as little as possible until the work is completed. Offer to go with the contractor to pay for the materials if they say they need money up front to pay for the materials. If they ask for a substantial amount of money up front, they are probably floating other jobs, which is a bad way to run a business.
When deciding on a design for your kitchen, you need to be practical in what you can afford and the space you have to work with (most kitchens in NYC are not known for their abundance of space). If you are looking to put in new kitchen cabinets, you might want to consider refacing them or have the cabinets stained a new color (provided they are wood and not particle board). One option for cheaper, stylish cabinets is IKEA. IKEA is great because they have many examples of extreme space efficiency, which is great for many homes in NYC.
There are many things to consider when remodeling a home or kitchen in NYC. Remember to set a budget and stick to it. It’s not worth going into deep debt because you want granite counter tops.

San Diego was first inhabited in the 1500 and 1600’s by Europeans and by Native Americans before that. The Spanish had control of San Diego until the 1830’s when Mexico won its independence from Spain. After the Mexican-American War, California became a part of the United States. San Diego was then incorporated as a city in 1850.
San Diego has a ton of good things going for it. San Diego is the 8th largest city in the United States and the second largest city in California. It’s situated perfectly on the coast and has many great features. San Diego was rated as the 5th best place to live in the United States in 2006. It’s also listed as one of the safest places to live in the United States. The main areas of economic growth are biotechnology, defense, financial services, computer sciences and telecommunications.
San Diego is a diverse town, although not as much as neighboring Los Angeles. A quarter of the population is Hispanic with almost half of the population Caucasian, 15% Asian and 7% African American. San Diego definitely has a slower pace than some of the other California cities especially for being a large city.
Compared to other cities around the country (looking at the Midwest and Southwest), San Diego enjoys a wide variety of home designs, but a coastal design is certainly welcome here, especially homes closer to the coast. San Diego is certainly a very diverse city, but not on the same level as Los Angeles. Also, being that Los Angeles is the “Creative Capital of the World”, there are a lot of things that might go over well in Los Angeles that simply would not work in San Diego. By no means are San Diego and Los Angeles polar opposite, but they are certainly quite a bit different despite only being an hour or so apart. If this gives you any indication, the largest employer in San Diego is the Navy and the San Diego school district. The largest employer in the Los Angeles area besides the number of dance, theater, music venues and movie studios are Kroger and a number of other large entities. The point is that San Diego has a large military presence. Los Angeles has some military, but not to the extent that San Diego does.
When trying to figure out a design for your remodel. It would be a great idea to go to open houses in your neighborhood. If there are no open houses, you may want to ask a realtor friend to show you a few homes for sale in your neighborhood. If you have a older historic home, you might be restricted by the amount of remodel you can do. In some historical areas, the extent of the historical preservation might only entail the exterior of the home. In other historical districts, it might extend further. Depending upon the neighborhood you are in, you might want to alter your design plan which is why it’s a good idea to see what other people are doing. You also need to consider whether you will be living there long term, short term or perhaps you are flipping the house. If you are living in the property long term, you certainly have a lot more flexibility in your options. If you are living in the house short term, It might be a good idea to be more neutral in your design. If the remodel is for the purpose of updating so people will buy your house, I would encourage you to do the bare minimum. If you think about it in terms of return on investment, you will want to look at areas of the home that will give you the best bang for the buck: kitchens and bathrooms. Within a kitchen and bathroom, I would still do the bare minimum since it’s unlikely that you will recover the money you spend. It all depends on how old your house is and how far out of date your house might be, but I would stick to maybe changing out carpet, light fixtures and door knobs. People notice the items that catch the most attention. Lights catch a lot of attention, because they are lights. People also pay attention to door knobs because it’s something they touch.

Los Angeles was founded on September 4th, 1781. It was a Spanish land at the time until becoming a Mexican territory after the Mexican War of Independence in 1821. After the Mexican – American War of 1848, Los Angeles and all of California became a property of the United States. Los Angeles became a municipality in 1850. Today, Los Angeles is commonly known as LA, not to be confused with Louisiana.
Los Angeles has a pretty interesting history and has a ton of contrasts and diversity not found in too many other cities. Los Angeles is the 2nd largest city on the country and the most populous city in California. Los Angeles is incredibly diverse and in addition to having a large Hispanic, African American and White population, it also has a large Asian population made up of many different countries. Economically, Los Angeles is the 3rd largest metropolitan area in terms of gross product, falling just behind Tokyo and New York City.
Being a very large city, Los Angeles is known as being the capital of many things around the world, most notably the “Entertainment Capital of the World”. However, entertainment isn’t the only way LA brings in money. LA is also driven by international trade, aerospace, petroleum, fashion and technology.
LA is also a very artistic and creative city. LA is claimed as the “Creative Capital of the World”. In fact, LA has more artists, writers, filmmakers, actors, dancers and musicians living and working in LA than any other city in the history of civilization. In fact, there are more than 1,100 annual theatrical productions and 21 openings every week. If you look at the museums, LA has more museums per capita than any other city in the world.
Los Angeles is a truly diverse population of people and a great representation of the United States being a “melting pot”. In fact, it’s easy to see just how diverse LA is by taking a look at the names of the different districts within LA: Arts District, Chinatown, Financial District, Little Tokyo, Toy District, Wholesale District, El Sereno, Arroyo Seco, Harvard Heights, Historic Filipinotown, Byzantine-Latina Quarter, Hollywood, Little Armenia, Thai Town, Koreatown, Melrose District, Crenshaw, Watts, South Los Angeles, Encino, Studio City, Van Nuys, Upper Bel Air, Country Club Park and Wilshire Park to name a few.
If you are remodeling a home in the LA area, there are a ton of things to consider. First of all, what part of town are you in? This could, but not absolutely, guide you towards the type of design you want to go towards. The great thing about LA is that a lot of things “fly” as long as it’s done well. You could go for a completely modern look or you could go the other way with a classic look. On the other hand, depending upon the neighborhood, you could go with a more Spanish design, Italian – Mediterranean design, or potentially an Asian design. That’s what’s great about LA, all of these different designs work. Every design may not work in every part of the city, but the design works somewhere.
When deciding on a design for your remodel in LA, you will need to decide whether you will be living in the property long term, short term or whether you are flipping the house. If you are staying in the property long term, you have a lot more liberty in what the design might look like, but keep in mind that you still want your house to be seller to the general public (if you want to be able to sell your house). If you are living in it short term, you might want to do a bare minimum remodeling. This might include simply changing out the carpet or some of the flooring, light fixtures and door knobs. If you are doing a remodel to sell, I would be very careful about the money you put in because you don’t always get that money back. If you are putting money into a remodel and you will be selling sooner rather than later, I would stay very neutral and concentrate on the kitchen and master bathrooms. Personally, I think it’s always a good idea to ensure the front yard or front of the house (provided it’s a house) is landscaped well. It’s all about first impressions! If you are flipping the house, you will need to make sure there is plenty of wiggle room and equity in the property. It’s a good idea to be fairly neutral when remodeling a home to flip. You will want to consider a ton of things, but remember to keep in mind that you will have to pay commissions to the realtors if using a realtor and closing costs on top of any holding costs that you might incur.
When remodeling a house in Los Angeles, the sky is the limit. There aren’t a lot of styles and designs that don’t work in Los Angeles. That being said, you may or may not be able to sell the house if your remodel is too radical. If you are choosing a contractor to do your remodel, be sure to get at least three bids from different contractors. Not only will you see what different contractors have to offer, but you will be able to gather additional design ideas from the contractors.

San Antonio is a fantastic city. It goes by a few nick names such as the river City, San Antone and the Alamo City. San Antonio is one of the older cities in Texas. San Antonio was one of the first cities established.

It was the capital of the Tejas province of Spain and later Mexico. San Antonio is known for many things, but the one thing that most people recognize about San Antonio is the Alamo. The battle for the Alamo took place from February 23 to March 6, 1836. The initial Alamo battle was lost by the Texian forces, but the Texian forces were eventually able to defeat the Spanish. San Antonio was later one of the primary spots for battle during the Mexican-American war. The Mexican-American war had a devastating effect on San Antonio and cut the number of residents down to 800 from nearly 3000 people. Today, San Antonio is a bustling city. San Antonio is currently ranked as the 7th largest city in the United States and the 2nd largest city in Texas. An interesting fact about San Antonio is that while it does have a large population, the population density really drops off as you move outside of the city. There are suburbs of course, but the suburbs are not developed and do not account for significant population densities especially compared to other metropolitan cities in Texas such as Houston, DFW and Austin. San Antonio has a healthy mixture of people with Hispanic or Latino being the predominant race. Within San Antonio, a large amount of the city’s revenue comes from tourism. San Antonio is a great place with a lot of good restaurants and things to do. Many of the tourists enjoy the River Walk, the Alamo, Sea World, Six Flags, watching the Spurs, visiting caves or exploring the Hill Country. Another popular destination during the summer is the Guadalupe River. People enjoy floating down the river, which is a natural fed river by the way (very clear water). Of course, San Antonio is not only a tourism based city, but it offers much more in terms of employment opportunities. The other areas of focus for the San Antonio economy are financial services, government and health care. San Antonio has a medical school and many other higher educational opportunities not to mention Southwest Research Institute.
San Antonio has a number of neighborhoods all around the city. Three of the more notable neighborhoods are Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills and Olmos Park. These neighborhoods represent the “old money” with an average housing value of $440,427. For those of you not familiar with San Antonio and Texas in general, that is a lot to pay for a house in Texas.
There are also a number of other notable areas of San Antonio that are quite popular including: Midtown, Uptown Broadway (Uptown Loop), North Central, Far North Central, Northwest side, Far West side, West side, Southtown/ King William, East Side and Far South Side.
When remodeling a house in San Antonio, there are a number of things you want to consider. For instance, you want to think about the neighborhood you are in. If you are in a historical district, you may need to follow different guidelines, particularly for the exterior of the home. Some historical districts are more limiting than others. When looking at a home to remodel, or perhaps you are remodeling a home you are currently living in, you certainly want to decide on a general design. A good thing to do would be to go visit homes that are for sale in your area. If you are happy with your home, you probably don’t want to consider purchasing them; rather you are simply doing a little research on what other people are doing design wise in your neighborhood. When researching these homes, you will want to look at how close the home is to your home and pay special attention to any borders. You might be asking what I mean by that. Well, If you are in a historical neighborhood for instance, you will want to stay within your neighborhood for research purposes. You will want to do this because your neighborhood might border a neighborhood with much newer homes in it. Typically, at least in Texas, there is a very different design that you might want for a 1950’s home versus a 1920’s home especially if people place a lot of importance on the retaining the character of homes from the 1920’s.
In San Antonio, there are many popular features that are also found in other cities across the United States, but there are also design features that you might only find in the southwestern United States or maybe only Texas. It’s customary to find many newer or remodeled homes with recessed lighting now. It’s also very stylish to include crown molding, granite counter tops with an under mount sink. As far as colors are concerned, oil rubbed bronze has been popular for a while so we’ll see if people start to get away from that or not. In general, your remodeling dollars will go the furthest in the kitchen and master bathroom. Most people know this, but it’s one of those things that can’t be stressed enough.
You will also want to consider whether you will be living in the house a long time, or if you are remodeling because you feel you need to remodel before you can sell. If you are remodeling a house that you will be living in a long time, you can be more liberal in your choices. If you are remodeling a house to sell, try to be as neutral as possible. For instance, you don’t want to have a wild back splash if you are remodeling to sell.
San Antonio is definitely a little different than the other cities in Texas. Some San Antonio homes are pretty modern and certainly have a trendy feel to them. This is similar to just about every city in the United States or around the world for that matter. San Antonio and Texas in general really starts to set itself apart though with certain Texas flair. In that, you’ll see a pretty modern design with a few cowboy or Wild West looking items. San Antonio, and El Paso to a larger extent, also has a Spanish or Mexican design feel to it as well. This element is something not seen as much in Houston, Austin, Dallas or Fort Worth.
Remember, do your research before deciding on a design for your home. Will you be living there long term or short term? And lastly, if you are having a contractor do the work, be sure to always get three bids from different contractors. This will give you a good idea of what you might spend, but you’ll also learn something from each of the contractors.
